Hiyuna/ Tear the Clock Down

Lyrics

Hiyuna Hiyuna
Hiyuna Hiyuna
Hiyuna Hiyuna
Hiyuna Hiyuna

From the silence come the sound
From the silence come the sound
From the silence come
From the silence come
From the silence come the sound

From the echo come the voice (del eco viene la voz)
From the echo come the voice (del eco viene la voz)
From the echo come
From the echo come
From the echo come the voice

Tear the clock down with the tower
then this won't be the final hour
We'll run wild and we'll run free
like we were always meant to be
We will live by sun and moon
Our bodies minds will be in tune
And we will know the pass of time
By the season's wrinkles in our eyes

Tear the clock down with the tower
Tear the clock down with the tower
Tear the clock down
Tear the clock down with the tower
then this won't be the final hour

We will live by sun and moon
Our bodies mind will be in tune
And we will know the time
By the season's wrinkles in our eyes
Tear the clock down with the tower
Story

Hiyuna is simply a beautiful sound I received, walking down the road on a sweltering summer day. This melody came to me in the wind. In my imagination, it is a word that means "right relationship to time".

The lyrics "From the silence come the sound" and "From the echo come the voice" came to me during a 5-Day meditation retreat with my teacher, Joanna Macy. The concept of Silence Speaking is deeply woven into this entire album. What does it mean- when silence speaks?

Tear the clock down with the tower, to me is about the toppling of the empire. This song is a revolution song. This song is saying- let the tower fall, let the empire fall, let it help us remember who we really are- simple beings, walking on the Earth.

This song is also about our relationship to time and the clock. Why are we enslaved by time? How can we come into Right Relationship with Time?

Tear the clock down with the tower, then this won't be the final hour.  Scientists and Spiritual Leaders alike say this is the eleventh hour, that we are running 'out of time'. Well, what if we let go of our concepts of time- then how could it still be the eleventh hour?

We live in such a fast paced modern world. Time to slow it down to the natural rhythms, ay?
